The latest Nielsen report provides some interesting data on how powerful is social media’s influence on consumer behavior both online and offline:

  • In the U.S. social networks and blogs reached nearly 80% of the active U.S. Internet users and continue to grow;
  • 48% of these consumers responded to a retailer’s offer posted on Twitter or Facebook;
  • 53% of active adult social network follow a brand;
  • 32% of  active adult social network follow a celebrity;
  • 70% of active adult social networkers shop online;
  • Most of the time spent online is on social networks and blogs;
  • Men are more likely to visit LinkedIn and Wiki;
  • Facebook is number one in the US;
  • Almost 40%of social media users access the content from their mobile phone;
