Brett Preston, General Manager – Group Learning & Development at Al-Futtaim Group gave a presentation as part of the HR Learning & Development Forum at the HR Summit and Expo 2012. The HR Learning & Development Forum was one of the two Forums that took place between November 20 and November 21. They complemented the HR Summit with focused discussions that were free to attend.
Crystel Heydenmann, EVP Corporate Human Resources & Transformation at Alcatel-Lucent France started the session by discussing her experience when transitioning from a non-HR into an HR role. She then provided examples of ways in which HR professionals can better act as “credible activists”.
The second day of the HR Summit and Expo 2012 started with an inaugural address from H.E. Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Awar, from the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources. He was followed by opening remarks from Basem Al Attar, Chair of the HR Summit, best-selling author and award winning human resources (HR) strategist.
Dave Ulrich’s presentation at the HR Summit and Expo 2012 also addressed the topic of transformation of HR. The HR guru emphasized aspects such as key findings from a global HR Competency Study initiated in 1987. Specific implications of the results obtained for the Middle East region were compared to the general results.

During the first session at the HR Summit and Expo 2012 in Dubai, Dave Ulrich gave some practical examples of the outside-in approach to staffing, learning and development, performance management, communication, leadership, and culture.
